Old Dog, Old Tricks

Change is the only constant, especially in the field of software. New tools and frameworks emerge almost daily, promising to make our lives easier or more productive. As technologists, it’s essential to stay current by experimenting with these innovations and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. With the advent of generative AI, the pace has only increased.

I find myself trying the technology advancements that appear to be the most promising. After several weeks of test-driving the technology at home and at work, I often find that none of them live up to the hype. Only to head back to a similar workflow that has been shaped over the entire course of my career.

I will continue to experiment with “next big thing”, looking for ways to improve my workflow for the better. Tweaking and adjusting as more useful tooling appears in the marketplace. However, I am not holding my breath for the tool that will completely upend what I have today.
